The NHS policy of ‘care closer to home’ appears to be gaining momentum as many Consultant ENT Surgeons are now working in clinics in G.P. health centres across the country. This of course means that the Consultant is invariably taken away from the hospital that they are employed at to do these clinics thus leaving a void at the hospital.

ENT referrals by G.P.s do not appear to be reducing significantly and it seems that there are still many extra waiting list clinics and theatres sessions being done across the U.K. In a way it is not all bad news – clearly Otorhinolaryngologists are, and I am sure will remain, a valuable and needed resource.

We have an excellent issue with the usual high quality articles for you to enjoy. Both Francis Vaz and I would like to develop the audit section of the journal and we would very much welcome audit papers being submitted to the Otorhinolaryngologist.
